The Eranove group has announced that two companies of which it is the majority shareholder were awarded prizes by EMEA Finance magazine at a ceremony held in London today, June 9th.
In addition to the Kénié project (which was awarded “Best Water Deal”) among the global EMEA award winners and having again won an award for the African region, the CIPREL combined cycle power plant also won an award (“Best Sustainability Deal”).
CIPREL was established in 1994 to meet the growing energy needs of Côte d’Ivoire. The company has long been the largest independent power producer in Côte d’Ivoire and indeed West Africa. The combined-cycle facility (“CIPREL IV”) that was initiated in February 2016, raising the plant’s total capacity to 556 MW, confirmed CIPREL’s leadership in electricity production in Côte d’Ivoire.
The combined cycle power plant technology, which helps produce more electricity without additional gas consumption, has led to not only an optimisation of the production cost of electricity, but also the economy of national gas resources. Above all else, it has reduced annual atmospheric CO2 emissions by 500,000 tonnes.
For its part, Kenié Énergie Renouvelable signed a 30-year concession agreement with the government of the Republic of Mali. Under the agreement, the Group will finance, develop, build and operate the Kenié hydro-electric unit, located on the Niger River.
The facility, with its installed capacity of 42 MW, could produce around 175 GWh, which is equivalent to the average annual consumption of 175,000 households. The structure will also enable Mali to make better use of its hydro-electric potential.
“The two prizes awarded by EMEA Finance confirm the relevance of our model of industrial development,” said Marc Albérola, CEO of the Eranove group. “At a time when Africa is experiencing a tremendous economic boom, CIPREL and Kénié prove that it is possible to build innovative energy infrastructure that enable it to meet its electricity needs while consolidating its commitments to sustainable development.”
